TOYZZZZZZ
A Dionysian Celebration of Plastic, a Place for Release and Renewal of Faith.
Toyzzzzz is a creation full of life, seeking to celebrate chaos or perhaps questioning how we cope with a complex and chaotic reality. One of the proposals or invitations in this creation is to create a space/ritual/party for a collective release and search search for human connection in a moment of comfort. The performance invites the audience to take part, sometimes as a spectator and sometimes as part of the ritual. The show tries to break the logical and expected, taking all of reality into a ridiculous celebration of humanity. The space changes and is built with a shifting color palette and toys that are inspired by the music of Igor Krutogolov and the toy orchestra, playing psychedelic music on children’s toys. The dancers sing, play, and dance, inviting the audience to let go of the outside world, release their grip and renew their faith, from pain to catharsis, from sadness to life force, and from plastic to music. We will remember the power of childhood through the intensity of adulthood, and open the possibility within ourselves to feel and communicate beyond societal dictates. Materiality, capitalism, and pop can serve as raw materials for play, where we release into basic humanity, with everything it can bring to the surface, in any condition, if given space and creative release. Perhaps this is how, together, we can birth a new culture, even if only for a brief moment.
The creation premiered at the Acre Festival 2021 and won 7 awards: Best Performance, Set Design, Costume Design, Lighting Design, Music Design, Movement Design, and a Special Mention for Music.
